Childhood souvenir 🧒
Pooradam (Star as per Malayalam Calendar) Day of charity of Podipara village. The legend behind the age-old ritual of 'Pooradam Kodup' goes like this: Once a couple of beggars arrived at Pachamkulam near Tirunalloorsthanam temple. When he asked for water, Illam's (the house of a Namboothiri Brahmin) grandmother gave him a small axe and told him to cut charcoal from a coconut and drink it. Grandmother saw the sight of the coconut tree bending in front of the bhikkhus (Buddhist Monk or devotee) who moved with the axe. By the time the astonished locals were called, the couple had disappeared. In the belief that " Parvati Parameshwarar" has arrived, they have taken a pledge that they will perform charity on Pooradam day on every year at the time of “Onam”. 'Pooradam Kodup' is traditionally observed by the generations and locals of Pachamkulam as a dedication to Sri Parameswara. The ritual is now led by the "Paithrika Pooradam Samiti"...
